The Postal Service is an electronic indie band that consists of Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) and Jimmy Tomborello. The band got its name from the way the music was made. Jimmy would make the music and send the songs to Ben through the mail and Ben would add vocals and send them back through the mail. This all started in 2001 when they remixed some songs together and decided to make more songs together. In 2003 the album "Give Up" was released and The Postal Service gained their popularity. The United States Postal Service gave the band some problems with the trade mark of the name but they came to an agreement to use their songs for advertising. In 2005 they broke up and haven't done much since despite the roumors of a new album.
